Officially registered as Cabaret Noir, although widely known in the UK as Cabernet Noir, the variety was bred in Switzerland in 1991. It is well suited to cooler climates and will ripen well in shorter seasons. It has good resistance to downy and powdery mildew and with loose clusters of berries, has resistance to botrytis bunch rot too. As a wine grape, it will produce deep hued, medium-bodied reds with notes of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar and warm spice.
